Take the Boring Out of Your Hallways in 3 Easy Steps
We talk a lot about decorating living rooms, bedrooms, dining rooms and kitchens but there is one space that often gets left out……HALLWAYS! Yes, they might seem boring and insignificant compared to larger rooms in a home but they can make a huge impact in a home when given just a little love and attention. We have 3 easy steps to help you take the boring out of your hallways and make it POP!
1. Keep Your Eyes Up
Lighting is key in any space and hallways are no exception. Keep ceiling lights unique to force your eyes to look up and have something beautiful to see. If your ceilings are low, this still applies to you! Many flushmount fixtures are stunning and can create the interest that you need. If your ceilings are high, a hanging pendant or chandelier is a fun option. Another option, to create interest, would be to paint the ceiling in a contrasting color or add wallpaper to make a big statement and be totally unexpected.
2. Keep it Grounded
Hallways get a ton of foot traffic so a good floor is SO important! Rug runners are always our go-to choice for hallways to add an instant pop of warmth, color or pattern. However, if you have the ability or burning desire to change up the flooring, do it. Add flooring with a unique pattern to it because it will hide dirt easily and instantly create a focal point. Wood flooring in a herringbone pattern or a tile in a colorful pattern are two great options to consider.
3. Keep it on Repeat
When decorating, always focus on the best parts of the room and a hallway’s best trait is its length. One of our favorite ways to accentuate the length of a hallway is through the art of repetition. If you are installing a unique ceiling light, consider adding a few more of the same exact light repeated all the way down the hall. Use this same concept with wall decor. Mount multiples of the same or similar pieces of art all the way down the hall for an unexpected and sophisticated look. If you love something in your hallway, consider adding more of it to make a statement. SIDE NOTE: length can also be accentuated with long rug runners or long furniture (like benches, dressers, console tables, etc.) along the walls!
